There are many ideas to take into consideration when you are doing research on a DJ for your big day… your wedding day!  We have come up with our top three:

Dependability

Research your choices! This is so important when hiring anyone! The biggest tip we can give is “Be sure you read reviews.”

Questions to consider when you are doing your research: Will your DJ show up at your event?

Will he cancel on you a week before your date for another event that pays more? 

The one thing worse than having a bad DJ is not having one show up on your wedding day in time to set up, soundcheck, get dressed, and be prepared. 

Personality and Professionalism

This is what separates a good DJ from a great DJ. 

You spend a lot of money on your wedding, why would you want to cut corners on the one person that controls the whole flow and vibe of your biggest day?

Does your DJ have the quality, skills, and energy to perform at their highest level on your special day? 

You want your DJ to deliver their best performance on your big day.  When they perform, you are able to see first-hand if they are the best match to bring what you envision to reality: 

• Are they organized enough to run your entire event according to your timeline request? 
• Are they professional with your guests and clear in their announcements? 
• Can they go from a relaxed dinner ambiance to high-energy party reception and keep it going? 
• How good are they with “on-the-fly changes” to make it so no one else will notice? 
• Can they read the crowd and deliver the right songs at the right time throughout the night? 
• Is the priority on the bride and groom versus their own personal reputation? 

You want a DJ that will try to get to know you so when the day comes, they are able to bring your expectations to life. If your DJ knows you like a friend, their performance will be based on delivering their best and trying not to disappoint you. When you don’t know who your DJ is and he doesn’t know you, it could feel like they are just not engaged with anyone and in it for a quick payday.

Presentation

This is not to be overlooked. While you might not be aware of the better quality in brand names for speakers and mics, you may still want to know the basics: 

• What kind of speakers do they use? 
• Only two 12″ speakers on stands? 

That may not be the presentation that matches your expectations. 

Sound, appearance, and lighting is a big part of their presentation:

• Is their setup professional looking? 
• Do they have good lighting and a variety to attract the guests to dance?  
• Do they have quality sound and base support to let your guests feel the vibe your music is trying to create? 

You always want to find the best quality for your money, but you also need to make sure they create the vibe you are looking for at your reception to keep your guests and you entertained throughout the night.

Reasearch & Align

So, the big thing here is, do your research and maybe go to an event where you can see the DJ in action. Ask for video clips to review. Make sure your DJ aligns with your vision for your reception and that you express everything you desire to them. When it is all said and done, you invest a lot of money and resources into this day some of you have been planning for years.  You don’t normally ever hear anyone complain about how much they spent on great entertainment because you and your guests had a blast.
